N.C. Law Fails to Protect Unborn from Murder

In response to "Grand jury to weigh charges in slaying of pregnant Marine" (Jan. 24): It's embarrassing that if the murderer of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is prosecuted under N.C. law, no charges can be filed for the death of her unborn child. If a pet kitten had shared her shallow grave, at least animal cruelty or destruction of property charges could be brought in addition to murder. Should her eighth-month fetus really have the legal standing of vermin? North Carolina needs legislation on unborn victims of violence.

Please call the speaker of the NC House, Joe Hackney, at (919) 733-3451 and the President Pro-Tempore of the NC Senate, Marc Basnight at (919) 733 6854 to ask them to allow the citizens of our state the opportunity to purchase a "Choose Life" license plate. The money raised by the sale of the plate would help fund crisis pregnancy centers.
