North Carolina Democrats for Life responsd to "Democrats not quite united" (Under the Dome) The News & Observer, 09.15.05

Regarding your Aug. 30 Under the Dome item "Democrats not quite united":

I congratulate the state Democratic Party for adopting a platform after several years without one. A platform is a statement of the general beliefs that will guide that party's legislative efforts.

I had the privilege of chairing the state Republican Party Platform Committee the last two years. Our platform is available to the world at www.ncgop.org. I invite the public to compare these two very different visions of what North Carolina government should do.

The last time I showed our GOP Platform to an elected Democratic officeholder he promptly switched to our party and hopefully will be contending for public office under a new banner. A former chair of the state Democratic Party has switched parties over discomfort with the liberalism of his former party's positions.

While there are a few liberals who have switched the other way, we are confident that the more the public compares these two visions the better Republicans look as leaders for the future of North Carolina.
