Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor: Here is a little secret that the author of the letter, "Here's four reasons to never vote for a Democrat," (AC-T, June 21), and the Republican Party don’t want you to know—there are many Democrats who don’t support abortion or euthanasia. A January 2004 Zogby Poll showed that 43% of Democrats deem abortion is manslaughter and a New York Times / CBS poll indicated that 52% of Democrats do not believe abortion should be generally available. Thus it is not surprising that 65 Democratic Congressmen along with Democrats for Life (democratsforlife.org) supported the 2002 Partial Birth Abortion Ban Bill.

Democrats for Life plans to have a large contingency at the Democratic National Convention in July where we will continue to fight for the Democratic ethic that defends the powerless and speaks for the voiceless.

If you are pro-life you do not have to be a Republican. In fact, I chose to be a pro-life Democrat because I value our natural world, rejoiced in a surplus, support affordable health care, and believe in the brotherhood of man.

Please call the speaker of the NC House, Joe Hackney, at (919) 733-3451 and the President Pro-Tempore of the NC Senate, Marc Basnight at (919) 733 6854 to ask them to allow the citizens of our state the opportunity to purchase a "Choose Life" license plate. The money raised by the sale of the plate would help fund crisis pregnancy centers.
