NC Pro-Life Democrats
Eva Ritchey
November 20, 2012
NC Pro-Life Democrats wishes to inform the public that Eva Ritchey has resigned as president of NC Pro-Life Democrats and has re registered as an independent voter. Mrs. Ritchey has been honored to have led pro-life Democrats in North Carolina for seven years and to have helped play a part in passing pro-life legislation including the Choose Life License Plate.
Mrs. Ritchey encourages all pro-life voters to continue to press the cause of human life. Mrs. Ritchey says, “It absolutely was a privilege to work with the dedicated pro-life Democrats I met as well as other pro-life citizens. I've worked with some fabulous people including Kristen Day, the national director of Democrats for Life of America. While my efforts at reform within the Democratic Party have come to an end, my dedication to protecting our Creator's gift of life for every human has not. I will continue to work with pro-life advocates within my state.”
In a statement released by Kristen Day, Executive Director of Democrats For Life of America: “ We appreciate Eva's hard work and dedication to protecting life and advocating for a pro-life platform within the Democratic Party. We couldn't be more proud of her work in North Carolina and know that she will continue her pro-life advocacy. We will miss her strong leadership in North Carolina, but look forward to our continued friendship and will continue to work together to promote a pro-life nation.”

Pro-Life Democrats to Speak at Democratic Convention
CAN YOU BE PRO-LIFE IN A PRO-CHOICE PARTY? Do We Count?
At the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Democrats For Life of America (DFLA) will showcase Pro-life Democratic leaders in the political, academic, and religious fields who have spent years standing up for pro-life values and continue to fight for life today.
The goal of DFLA is to provide a voice for Pro-life Democrats within the Democratic Party. Pro-life Democrats, unlike Republicans, share a genuine commitment to reducing the number of abortions, particularly by supporting the needs of pregnant women and their families. Pro-life Democrats also play a critical role in the party by teaming with their fellow Democrats to fight for economic and social justice.
To accomplish this goal, the language of the Democratic Party Platform must be updated to reflect the party’s wide diversity of positions on the issue of abortion, including the majority position of both Americans and Democrats, which is to reduce the abortion rate. DFLA’s proposed platform language is consistent with the inclusive nature of the Democratic Party, and it will broaden our party’s base and lead us to victory in critical elections.

2012 Democratic National Convention
Since 2004, Democrats For Life of America has represented itself at the National Democratic Convention. In September, we will join our fellow Democrats in North Carolina at the 2012 Democratic Convention to extol the importance of a big tent party.
It is imperative that the big tent include those who support life. If we, as a Party, hesitate to embrace those who oppose abortion, it equates to lost votes and lost opportunities to pass legislation to protect workers’ rights, environmental protection, affordable health care and child care and other legislation that represents our Democratic Values.
We hope that you will join us in Charlotte , North Carolina for a Town Hall Meeting and reception for pro-life Democrats. Our North Carolina Chapter, lead by Eva Ritchey is looking forward to welcoming you so please put this on your calendar and join us during the week of September 3, 2012.
We cannot give up our goal and our fight to push our Party toward a Whole Life position that embraces protection for life from conception to natural death. Please join us in Charlotte.

It's Time to Choose Life
The Democratic Party's strong commitment to human rights leads naturally to a pro-life position. Just as we care about the welfare of children, the disabled, and the elderly, we care about unborn children and their mothers. The Democratic Party was for years the defender of the powerless and spoke for the voiceless. Democrats work to find lasting solutions for women and families who face the choice of abortion because often that choice comes from desperation. As supporters of the party of tolerance and free speech, we are confident that our pro-life voice within the party will be respected. As pro-life Democrats who care about our party, we choose to work within the party to foster respect for all human life, from beginning of life to natural death. This includes, but is not limited to, opposition to abortion, capital punishment, and euthanasia. You can be pro-life and a Democrat. In fact, it is essential to the pro-life movement and to the Democratic Party that Democrats who are pro-life stay in the party and make their voices heard. We hope you will join us.

This is the newly designed NC Choose Life License Plate. You cannot purchase one yet because the NC Choose Life License Plate is blockaded in the Rules Committee of our Legislature. It has been in the Legislature for 8 years. There are more than 130 approved license plates in North Carolina. The sale of each Choose Life plate will give $15 to pregnancy care centers. Last year, the 85 pregnancy care centers served over 46,000 women and men in North Carolina at no taxpayer expense.
